Indian Culture

Welcome To India- A Country With More Than Two Million Gods !!

Indian culture, art, custom and intellectual achievements are considered to be one of the oldest in the world. Its culture had developed during the Indus Valley Civilization and has since been preserved as a valuable heritage. Having been ruled by several rulers, India's cultural practices, languages, customs and traditions are full of diversity. India being the fifth largest and second most populated country is known for its ancient and deep-rooted culture for last 5000 years. India's rich culture has evolved with the changing times in Vedic age, rise and decline of Buddhism, Golden age, Muslim conquests and British colonization.

While exploring India's history, we see different civilizations including Indo-Aryan, Mohenjodaro, Harappan and more. Each one of them was different in terms of life-style, language, art, religion and tradition. India accepted Indo-Greeks in the 2nd century B.C.; later the Kushans visited India in 1st century A.D. and established themselves here. This way, India has a strong impression of Arab, Turkish, Persian, Mughal, Portuguese, Dutch, English and French civilizations in its cultural heritage.

Hinduism is the third largest religion of the world, and India is the land of its origin. But India is a secular country and people are free to  profess Hinduism, Islamic, Sikhism,  Buddhism, Jainism, Christianity, Zoroastrianism, Judaism or any other they so choose to. Similarly, most of the languages originated from Sanskrit, but today India has more than 450 languages.

Indian dress and costumes, too, are full of vast diversity depending upon the climatic conditions of the respective place, people, and religion. The same diversity is found in the festivals of India.

Indian literature is incomparable with any other. It has Vedas like Rigveda, Atharvaveda, Yajurveda, etc. Apart from this, great epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata, which have been translated in several foreign languages, are famous the world over. The Gita has been translated in more than 400 languages.

Music, dance and art forms of India are unique. People from all over the world visit India to see and learn art forms like Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Bharatnattyam, Kathak and Kuchipudi. Recently, India has evolved with a revolution in Ayurveda and Yoga. Even science admits that these are the best ways to keep the body fit and healthy and heal any sort of disorder.

Truly said by French Scholar Romain Rolland-

"If there is one place on the face of earth where all the dreams of living men have found a home from the very earliest days when man began the dream of existence, it is India!"
